Puducherry Seed Certification Agency is an autonomous organization constituted by the Government of Puducherry as contemplated under Section 8 of the Seeds Act, 1966. It was registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 on 10th July 2000 and has started functioning from the year 2001-02.

The primary task of the Puducherry Seed Certification Agency is to certify seeds of any crop/ variety notified by the Government of India under section 5 of the Seeds Act 1966 and to ensure that the seed so certified conforms to the minimum limits of germination and purity prescribed under section 6 of the said Act.

Puducherry is one among the 26 States and Union Territories to have established certification mechanism and is the only Union Territory to have its own independent agency for seed certification.
